Opening the Common Gate

"Opening the Common Gate" is an astonishing historical documentary series. Life in the years before the 1967 Referendum is retold by some of Broome's most prominent Indigenous locals.

The national 1967 referendum was a watershed event and gave Indigenous people the same rights as all other Australian citizens. It changed the way Indigneous people lived and worked and fell in love as this series illustrates through some heart-wrenching and humourous stories.

The film is an integral part of the exhibition, lauched in Broome in June and travelling to the Western Australian Museum later this year.

Keep watch GTV35 for 'Opening the Common Gate" stories from local identites including Lexie Tang Wei, Phillip Dolby and Donnelly McKenzie.
