Cornel Ozies recieves AV Myers Award

Broome filmmaker Cornel Ozies graduated from the Australian Film, Television and Radio School’s (AFTRS) prestigious Diploma in Cinematography Award Course in December 2011, receiving the AV Myers Indigenous Award for exceptional talent. Presented by renowned filmmaker Rachel Perkins, on behalf of Andrew Myer, Cornel received a grant of $20,000.
 

Cornel commenced his screen studies at Goolarri Media. He moved to Wawili Pitjas production in 2008 where he honed his camera and editing skills on a range of projects for the National Indigenous Television (NITV), Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) and for local distribution and the corporate sector.
 

Cornel's filmmaking credits include director of the Deadly Yarns short film, Bollywood Dreaming and writer/director of last year's Deadly Yarns short film Running Riot. Cornel has also worked as cinematographer on the NITV series Milli Milli Nganka and was a camera assistant on the ABC TV documentary, Jandamarra's War.
 

Previous AFTRS Diploma in Cinematography graduates include award winners Andrew Lesnie and Wawrick Thornton.
